About This Converter

This bandwidth converter covers 12 units including bps, Kbps, Mbps, Gbps, Tbps, B/s, kB/s, MB/s, GB/s, and IEC binary rates like Kibps, Mibps, and MiB/s. It uses exact SI (powers of 1000) and IEC (powers of 1024) definitions so you can accurately compare your ISP speed test results with actual file-download rates. Useful for network engineers, gamers checking latency requirements, or anyone trying to understand why a 100 Mbps connection downloads at roughly 12.5 MB/s.

FAQ

Why are Mbps and MB/s different?
Mbps is megabits per second; MB/s is megabytes per second. 1 byte = 8 bits, so 100 Mbps ≈ 12.5 MB/s.
What are SI vs IEC data rates?
SI uses 10³ steps (K, M, G); IEC uses 2¹⁰ steps (Ki, Mi). Both appear in specs. We support both systems.
My ISP advertises Gbps but I see MB/s. Is that normal?
Yes. Many apps show bytes/sec, while ISPs use bits/sec. Divide by 8 to get MB/s from Mbps (and multiply by 8 for the reverse).
How precise are the conversions?
All conversions are exact based on the chosen base (10³ for SI, 2¹⁰ for IEC). Very large/small values may show in scientific notation for readability.
