Pace Calculator

Calculate your running or cycling pace, time, or distance. Enter any two values and the calculator solves for the third. Results are shown in both metric and imperial units.

Pace is the inverse of speed: it tells you how many minutes it takes to cover one kilometre or one mile. Runners typically think in pace (min/km or min/mi), while cyclists often prefer speed (km/h or mph). This calculator converts freely between all four formats and supports common race distances with one-click buttons. All calculations are instant -- just type and the results update automatically.

About Pace vs Speed

Pace measures the time it takes to cover a unit of distance (e.g., 5:30 per km). Speed measures the distance covered per unit of time (e.g., 10.9 km/h). They are inversely related: a faster pace means a higher speed.

To convert pace to speed, divide 60 by the pace in minutes. For example, a pace of 6:00 /km equals 60 / 6 = 10 km/h. To convert speed to pace, divide 60 by the speed.

Common Race Distances

  • 5K -- 5 kilometres (3.107 miles)
  • 10K -- 10 kilometres (6.214 miles)
  • Half Marathon -- 21.0975 km (13.109 miles)
  • Marathon -- 42.195 km (26.219 miles)

FAQ

What is pace?
Pace is the amount of time it takes to cover one unit of distance, usually expressed as minutes and seconds per kilometre (min/km) or per mile (min/mi). A lower pace number means you are moving faster.
How do I convert pace to speed?
Divide 60 by your pace in decimal minutes. For example, a pace of 5:30 /km is 5.5 minutes per km, so speed = 60 / 5.5 = 10.91 km/h. To convert between km and mile units, multiply or divide by 1.60934.
What's a good running pace?
It depends on fitness level and distance. For recreational runners, a 5K pace of 6:00-7:00 /km (9:40-11:15 /mi) is common. Competitive runners often target sub-4:00 /km (sub-6:26 /mi) for shorter races. Elite marathon runners sustain around 2:55 /km (4:42 /mi).
